How to Eat Your Way to Vibrant Skin

"You are what you eat!"

There's a reason you've heard that old cliché about a zillion times... Because it's true! There is a direct connection between what you eat and how you look and feel.

For many of us, aging skin is our worst enemy. We will do anything to keep our skin looking young and fresh. Most people don't realize the foods we put into our bodies are just as effective as wearing wrinkle cream, sunscreen, and religiously washing your face 3 times a day. In our efforts for healthy skin, it is important to incorporate foods into our diets that are packed with anti-oxidants and nutrients.

For achieving and maintaining youthful skin, focus on eating these foods:

  • Colorful Fruits & Veggies:
    • They are loaded with anti-oxidants!
    • You should be eating 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Add them to your omelets, smoothies, salads, WHATEVER. Just get them in your diet.
    • Leafy greens, tomatoes, carrots, apples, and blueberries all have the power to stop your unstable molecules from damaging the healthy ones. (Unhealthy, dying cells are the reason for those pesky wrinkles)
  • Whole Grains:
    • Whole grains rich in fiber include: oats, brown rice, quinoa, and wheat.
    • Here's the low down, whole grains are considered low on the glycemic index. They help maintain a steady balance of insulin. Refined carbs (cookies, bread, anything made with white flour) cause your insulin to spike. This causes a boost in a hormone called Androgen, which causes many people to breakout.
    • You should aim for three servings of whole grains daily.
  • Fish:
    • The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are considered holy for the many things they can do for your body, anti aging happens to be one of them.
    • Salmon, trout, tuna... If you eat canned tuna, opt for albacore packed in water. It contains higher levels of omega-3's.
    • If you're not the biggest fan of fish, you can buy the supplements at any drugstore or talk to your doctor about other options.
*Don't forget to drink 8 - 8oz. glasses of water per day to help rid the toxins in your body that can keep skin from looking and feeling it's best!
